Home is NOT Just Where Your Rump Rests

I finally got some good news yesterday.

We’ve lived in our current apartment for about 5 years.  We initially moved in because it was cheap.  Well, you get what you pay for.  The place is basically carved out of an attic.  The kitchen is ridiculously small, with about 3 feet of counter space and an apartment stove.  The place is drafty at best, cold at worst.  It’s pretty sad when you are sitting on the couch, curled up in a blanket, and can still feel you toes going numb.  It has all hard-wood floors which gets really cold on your feet.  The water pressure is horrid.  I can’t remember the last time I took an uninterrupted shower.  Not to mention, there is no laundry facilities, dishwasher or garbage pickup.  We have to fight for our parking spot all the time too.  The only good thing about the place is it being only a block and a half from my daughter’s school.

My husband and I have talked about moving for years.  We don’t want to buy a house because we don’t plan on living in this frozen tundra indefinitely.  We have friends who manage an apartment complex in town and they recently had some apartments come available.  We looked at two last night, and they are beautiful!  Really spacious, clean, warm.  The kitchen is huge with tons of counter space, a dishwasher, and a normal size stove.  There is also a washer and dryer in the unit!  We’ll even have our own garage.  The best part is we get to keep our kitties.

I must admit, I’m excited as hell.  There will be a lot of work to do, but it is so worth it.  We move in on the 1st.

I think it’s so important for healthy living to have a home you feel comfortable in.  Up until now, we haven’t had that, and it’s so depressing.  Things are definitely looking up 🙂
